this is a blog about sport, but i'd like to leave an internet-based mark of respect for mark linkous, who took his own life on saturday. it's always strange when a musician who has given you enjoyment through their art dies. in one obvious way, we as consumers are connected to them. but isolation is often their lot. in spite all of the beautiful sounds he created, linkous was seemingly unable to find enough beauty in this world to carry on.
amongst all the tributes, steve albini has said it best:
"I thought he was a good dude and his art was genuine. I don't think there's a lot more you can ever ask of anybody."
